Sulligent welcomed the Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative (ENI) on August 18, 2023. The community of 1,838 residents in Lamar County is one of twenty across the state participating in ENI. The program will equip neighbors and community partners to address the pandemic-related issues of today while building capacity to deal with the health and quality of life challenges of tomorrow.
Sulligent Community Church Fellowship Hall hosted the lively ENI kickoff celebration. Several local leaders, citizens, and ENI representatives gathered for the event. The kickoff featured welcome remarks, a motivational message, and refreshments.
“I’m honored to be a small part of all the amazing things ENI is bringing to my community. The healing zone, the Youth Community Council, and the heath initiative are just a few things that excite me for the future of Sulligent,” said Kacie Long, Sulligent Community Liaison. “My hopes for all of this is not just to make Sulligent greater now, but greater for future generations to come.”
Sulligent residents will join ENI’s Sulligent Advisory Group and Youth Community Council. Together, the groups will work to improve health outcomes for their town. Among other projects, they will draft a health equity plan. They will also create a “healing zone” in the community. “Healing zones” are natural and recreational spaces for improving physical and mental health.
“We are proud to be partnering with this wonderful community. Sulligent is filled with hard-working individuals, and we are excited to work with them toward a healthier tomorrow,” exclaimed ENI Project Leader, Dr. Arturo Menefee.
Dr. Earl Suttle of Leadership Success International fired up Sulligent residents in attendance. His motivational message encouraged Sulligent residents to “master stress for better success.” His remarks aimed to empower residents to strengthen their physical and mental health.
