Prichard welcomed the Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative (ENI) on June 17th, 2023. The community of 18,870 residents in Mobile County is one of twenty across the state participating in ENI. The program will equip neighbors and community partners to address the pandemic-related issues of today while building capacity to deal with the health and quality of life challenges of tomorrow.
The North Mobile County Food Park and Market in downtown Prichard hosted the lively ENI kickoff celebration. Several local leaders, citizens, and ENI representatives gathered for the event. The kickoff featured welcome remarks, a motivational message, and refreshments.
“I’m excited to welcome ENI into Prichard because I personally feel that health is important especially mental health. This is a great opportunity for the City of Prichard to learn healthy ways to cope with life’s everyday challenges. COVID-19 really changed the world. I’m elated Prichard has been selected as a community to be educated and receive assistance with adapting to those changes to improve the City’s overall health,” said LaSheryl Dotch, Prichard’s Community Liaison.
Prichard residents will join ENI’s Prichard’s Advisory Group and Youth Community Council. Together, the groups will work to improve health outcomes for their town. Among other projects, they will draft a health equity plan. They will also create a “healing zone” in the community. “Healing zones” are natural and recreational spaces for improving physical and mental health.
ENI Project Leader, Dr. Arturo Menefee, expressed his excitement for Prichard to join the initiative. “Prichard has a rich history of leadership. We look forward to working with them to assist them in their effort to improve their community.”
Dr. Earl Suttle of Leadership Success International fired up Prichard residents in attendance. His motivational message encouraged Prichard residents to “master stress for better success.” His remarks aimed to empower residents to strengthen their physical and mental health.
