Pittsview welcomed the Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative (ENI) on August 16, 2023. The community of around 1,200 residents in Russell County is one of twenty across the state participating in ENI. The program will equip neighbors and community partners to address the pandemic-related issues of today while building capacity to deal with the health and quality of life challenges of tomorrow.
Shiloh Baptist Church hosted the lively ENI kickoff celebration. Several local leaders, citizens, and ENI representatives gathered for the event. The kickoff featured welcome remarks, a motivational message, and refreshments.
“The kickoff event was absolutely awesome. It was very encouraging to have the Pittsview residents, elected officials and community stakeholders come together to discuss and review plans for community improvement. This camaraderie left everyone, particularly the residents, with HOPE and excitement for the plans that will provide a safe, healthy, and recreational area for the Pittsview community and Russell County as a whole,” said Pittsview Community Liaison, Leroy Davis Jr.
Pittsview residents will join ENI’s Pittsview Advisory Group and Youth Community Council. Together, the groups will work to improve health outcomes for their town. Among other projects, they will draft a health equity plan. They will also create a “healing zone” in the community. “Healing zones” are natural and recreational spaces for improving physical and mental health.
“We’re glad to call Pittsview a partner of ENI. It’s clear the citizens of Pittsview are passionate about their community, and we are excited to work with them towards a healthier tomorrow,” said ENI Project Leader Dr. Arturo Menefee.
Dr. Earl Suttle of Leadership Success International fired up Pittsview residents in attendance. His motivational message encouraged Pittsview residents to “master stress for better success.” His remarks aimed to empower residents to strengthen their physical and mental health.
