Chief Petty Officer Leroy Davis Jr. was born in Seale, Alabama, and is a graduate of Mount Olive High School in Fort Mitchell, Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1975. He started his naval career in Orlando, FL, and moved around the U.S. before he was deployed to the Gulf War. After completing his tour on board the USS Hawes, he attended the Armed Forces Police Academy at Lakeland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
After school, he reported to Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland, as the Chief Master-at-Arms, Detention Facility Officer, Urinalysis Coordinator, and First Lieutenant. He then attended the Career Recruiting Force Academy at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL, and upon completion was assigned to Navy Recruiting District Montgomery, AL, and nine months later he assumed duty as the Zone Supervisor for Northwest Alabama.
After his 20 years of service to the U.S. Navy, Chief Davis continues to serve the State of Alabama. Among other things, he is a mentor coordinator at Russell County Veterans Treatment Court 21st Judicial Circuit, the First VP of Phenix City/Russell County NAACP Branch #5050, host of the TV show Veterans View, a council member and board of directors member for the Wiregrass RC&D, a member of the Russell County Economic Development Council, a Russell County Veteran’s Counsel Co- Founder, and a deacon at the Bethlehem Crossroads Baptist Church.
Chief Davis married the lovely Shirley D. Wyatt, and they have three beautiful children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
