Haleyville welcomed the Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative (ENI) on August 23, 2023. The community of 4,381 residents in Winston and Marion County is one of twenty across the state participating in ENI. The program will equip neighbors and community partners to address the pandemic-related issues of today while building capacity to deal with the health and quality of life challenges of tomorrow.
Haleyville City Hall hosted the lively ENI kickoff celebration. Several local leaders, citizens, and ENI representatives gathered for the event. The kickoff featured welcome remarks, a motivational message, and refreshments.
“I’m excited for the opportunity ENI is affording our community. Already positive communication between ALL stakeholders is occurring, pin-pointing health care needs of the elderly our community must address,” said Neina Middleton, Haleyville Community Liaison. She also said she is excited for the “impact ENI will have for our community beyond the program’s end date, a lasting infrastructure for the promotion of healthy living and an archive of health equity resources.”
Haleyville residents will join ENI’s Sulligent Advisory Group and Youth Community Council. Together, the groups will work to improve health outcomes for their town. Among other projects, they will draft a health equity plan. They will also create a “healing zone” in the community. “Healing zones” are natural and recreational spaces for improving physical and mental health.
“We are proud to be partnering with Haleyville. This vibrant community is filled with passion, and we are excited to work with them as they continue to better their community,” said ENI Project Leader Dr. Arturo Menefee.
Dr. Earl Suttle of Leadership Success International fired up Haleyville residents in attendance. His motivational message encouraged Haleyville residents to “master stress for better success.” His remarks aimed to empower residents to strengthen their physical and mental health.
