Guin welcomed the Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative (ENI) on September 7, 2023. The community of 2,172 residents in Marion County is one of twenty across the state participating in ENI. The program will equip neighbors and community partners to address the pandemic-related issues of today while building capacity to deal with the health and quality of life challenges of tomorrow.
The Guin Holiday Inn hosted the lively ENI kickoff celebration. Several local leaders, citizens, and ENI representatives gathered for the event. The kickoff featured welcome remarks, a motivational message, and refreshments.
“Often the health care concerns of rural communities are underserved. The Equitable Neighborhoods Initiative is addressing this issue by asking the community about their specific health concerns and then providing educated guidance toward implementing and sustaining concrete solutions to these concerns,” said Guin Community Liaison Keith Rhudy. “ENI is presenting an exciting opportunity for Guin and it is my hope we will enjoy the benefit of improved health for years to come.”
Guin residents will join ENI’s Guin Advisory Group and Youth Community Council. Together, the groups will work to improve health outcomes for their town. Among other projects, they will draft a health equity plan. They will also create a “healing zone” in the community. “Healing zones” are natural and recreational spaces for improving physical and mental health.
“We’re glad to call Guin a partner of ENI. Guin is home to many passionate people, and we are excited to work with them towards a healthier tomorrow,” Said ENI Project Leader Dr. Arturo Menefee
Dr. Earl Suttle of Leadership Success International fired up Guin residents in attendance. His motivational message encouraged Guin residents to “master stress for better success.” His remarks aimed to empower residents to strengthen their physical and mental health.
